Summary
SB1 would fundamentally alter the nature of higher education in Ohio by prohibiting DEI programs, restricting the collective bargaining rights of faculty and staff, and requiring faculty to allow "intellectual diversity" even where that term refers false or oppressive content.
Status
SB1 was introduced in the Senate on January 22, 2025, and referred to the Senate Higher Education Committee on January 29, 2025. It recieved its first hearing (sponsor and proponent) on the same day. SB1 is scheduled for an opposition hearing on Wednesday, February 11, at 10am. You can find information on submitting testimony below.
