#AskingForAFriend Ep.56

Writer's picture: Rev. Dr. Ben HuelskampRev. Dr. Ben Huelskamp

Today’s episode comes from John Backman (she/her). John, who also goes by Janelle, shares about why she believes names are important & why it’s important to use the names that people prefer. For trans and gender non-conforming people, names are more than just a way to differentiate one person from another: they often reflect a deeper sense of who they are and the way they self-identify. Referring to someone by the name they prefer is a way to show that you care and respect that person’s sense of identity.
