LOVEboldly Condemns the Profoundly Unchristian Anti-LGBTQIA+ Policy of the Diocese of Cleveland
[Westerville, OH] – [September 13, 2023] LOVEboldly, an Ohio faith-based nonprofit working to create spaces where LGBTQIA+ people can flourish in Christianity, condemns the harmful and unchristian practices espoused in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Cleveland’s recently issued anti-LGBTQIA+ policy for Catholic schools and parishes. At a time when the LGBTQIA+ community is under constant attack, Jesus’ assurance in Matthew 11:28-30 is more relevant than ever: “Come to me, all you who are weary and are carrying heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
Faith communities and schools should be refuges for people to find peace and space to identify in the many ways that God created them including as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, and Asexual and Aromantic people among other identities.
To LGBTQIA+ Catholics, please know that you are loved just as you are, just as God created you to be. We SEE you. We AFFIRM you. And we LOVE you. LGBTQIA+ Christians, Followers of Jesus, and Jesus People of any denominational or church affiliation are welcome to reach out to LOVEboldly for support. To all LGBTQIA+ youth affected by this discriminatory policy and the brave youth allies who have their backs, we send our deepest support.
