Statement on International Women's Day 2023

March 8, 2023

Dr. Ben Huelskamp on behalf of the Board and Community of LOVEboldly

(he/they)

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

On this International Women’s Day, LOVEboldly reminds the community that transgender women are women. As state governments across the country seek to ban, silence, and erase transgender people, often under the guise of “protecting women,” we must remember that trans women are women. If our goal is to protect women, then we must expand our legal and social safeguards for the trans community.

It is no coincidence that the Ohio House Higher Education Committee is hearing sponsor and proponent testimony today on the House Bill 6, the so called “Save Women’s Sports Act” which would require Ohio K-12 schools and institutions of higher education to create single sex teams and require student athletes to complete on teams segregated by their sex as assigned at birth.

On International Women’s Day 2023, we urge the Ohio community to support and uplift all women, both cisgender and transgender.
