Statement on X (Formerly Known as Twitter)

September 12, 2023

Dr. Ben Huelskamp on behalf of the Board and Community of LOVEboldly

Since Elon Musk’s takeover of Twitter and the platform’s rebrand as X, the online community has noted a sharp increase in white supremacist and Christian nationalist rhetoric including specific anti-Semitic, misogynistic, racist, homophobic, and transphobic threats and attacks. In at least some of these cases, these attacks and threats have been personally boosted by Musk himself. While hateful rhetoric is posted across social media platforms every second, the fact that the owner of one of those platforms would become involved and side with hate creates an ethical quandary for organizations oriented towards justice.

After close and prayerful consideration of the facts and ethical dilemma, LOVEboldly will no longer utilize X for social media effective immediately. We encourage other justice organizations to seriously consider their continued use of X and the unspoken messages that use conveys.
