Why Should Christians Care?

Summary

HB249 is a reintroduction of the proposed drag ban from the previous legislative session. It is written in such a way that a drag “performer” would include ANY and ALL Transgender people going about their business in public. The bill would further impose the following penalties:
A first-degree misdemeanor if the performance takes place in the presence of a minor.
A fifth-degree felony if the performance is “obscene.”
A fourth-degree felony if the performance is “obscene” and there are minors under 13 years of age present.

Status

HB249 was introduced in the House on April 29, 2025, and was assigned to the House Judiciary Committee on May 7, 2025. The bill had its first hearing (sponsor testimony) on May 28, 2025. The bill had a second hearing (proponent testimony) on October 29, 2025.
